How many little black sketch books do you have?
Right now, I am working on volume 62

When did you start?
The first one is dated 1985, but I really didn't start using the sketchbooks rigorously until 1992

Do you have one of those little black books for each job?
No, they are sequential with multiple projects in each.

What exactly is in each book?
Ideas, meeting notes, project investigations, plans for my back yard ...

Can I borrow a piece of paper?
No. I have two rules, always use ink and NEVER tear out a sheet.

Tell me about the railroad work.
My dad and I volunteered with the Friends of the Cumbres & Tolec Scenic Railroad every summer for ten years.

What exactly do you do?
We work on various projects. We spent three years rebuilding an 1883 wood mail car and another two on a 1903 wood flat car.  Last year we worked on a gondola.

Do you ride the train?
Yes, we try to work in a trip each year.
